    Hello everyone,

I am french, living in Vientiane and would like to get a driver license here (it's a way cheaper than in France). Do you know if the driver license is recognized in Europe or France? How long does it take? Could you recommend some driver's schools?

    best,

    B.

While I am not sure, I highly doubt that a Lao drivers license will be acceptable in Europe. A visit to the appropriate authority's website would probably be wise. If I understand correctly, you do not already possess a license? I'm not sure if the process differs from when I got my Lao license as I already possessed a valid license from the states. Some paperwork and a test (driving, written and oral) and I had my Lao license good for five years. Total time was about two weeks as I was not required to take any classes. Can't recall exactly how much I paid as it was three years ago. I have used my Lao license in Thailand, but I also had an international license and my license from the states so I can't be sure which one actually did the trick. Have only been stopped once in Thailand in a mass 'Document check'...

I will ask around re driving schools and see if any have Eng/French speaking instructors.

Thank you very much and I do not pocess one already.
Anyway, from what I read, the Lao driving license is acceptable for 12 months at least.
    Thanks again JK!

Does anyone know then about any instructor speaking English and/or French?

Thanks a lot for your help

Salut .
